Friends of Nepal is an organization of former Peace Corps volunteers who served in Nepal. It was founded in 1986 at the Peace Corps 25th Anniversary celebration. The goal of Friends of Nepal is to give returned Nepal volunteers the opportunity to reconnect with each other and with Nepal. We publish a quarterly newsletter with news about the Peace Corps and Nepal, and provide support to small-scale development projects in Nepal. Our first major activity was a fundraising campaign in response to serve earthquake projects in Nepal through such organizations as Save the Children, World Neighbors, Sewa, and World Education. We also publish a quarterly newletter and organize a meeting and social event at the annual Peace Corps Conference. We have about 250 paid members, and many more who remain interested and active,m but who are not official members. Most Nepal RPCVs developed very strong ties to Nepal as volunteers, and wish to stay connected after leaving the Peace Corps.
We hope to strengthen out network of people interested in Nepal, and help Nepal to reach its development goals.
